RYA is involved in the renovation and extension project of a daycare center, as well as the construction of new housing units, as an EPB consultant.
The dimensions and proportions of the existing building reveal significant potential for transformation, suggesting that the structure can be given a new life rather than being subject to unnecessary demolition. Preserving it aligns with the neighbourhood’s transformation strategy and with the city’s ambition to strengthen the east-west connection.
Within this vision, the new volume is introduced in a relatively dense part of the neighbourhood, while simultaneously re-establishing a coherent connection between the two existing façades. Freed from the technical constraints of the original building, this new element develops its own architectural identity and formal autonomy, while providing the flexibility required to accommodate the functions necessary for the programme to operate effectively.
